Guidance for Negotiating Shipbuilding Contracts
Sails, kites and Flettner rotors can be fitted to ships to provide a proportion of the energy needed to propel the vessel. The benefit is to reduce fuel consumption and emissions from the main engine. The introduction of a wind propulsion technology into a ship newbuilding project can give rise to some interesting challenges which will need to be carefully managed.
