Guidance for Negotiating Shipbuilding Contracts

10 Points to Consider In Shipbuilding Contracts for Ships with Wind-Assisted Propulsion

Sails, kites and Flettner rotors can be fitted to ships to provide a proportion of the energy needed to propel the vessel. The benefit is to reduce fuel consumption and emissions from the main engine. The introduction of a wind propulsion technology into a ship newbuilding project can give rise to some interesting challenges which will need to be carefully managed.

Michael Dickin has published an article in the trade press Riviera Maritime Media in which he sets out some of the challenges and how to go about tackling them. The full article can be accessed here.
